Designing showRaker
June 2021- June 2022 500+ hours UX Design project, involving Quantitative & Qualitative findings, Classical, lean UX & Design Sprint methods. + Design Thinking +Research +Ideation techniques + Methodologies + artefacts
This project is Partly Ergonomics of human-system interaction ISO 9241 compliant.
ShowRaker is a platform to help users generate content. That seems to be a low hanging giveaway. But while at it, it also wants to make the process of generating that content easy, engaging, fun, exciting and build a new low for entry barrier.
Premise
I had learnt that a very few people generate content. Given the fact that less than 2% engage in generating content leaves a lot of space for the “lurkers” to get on the wagon building useful content. The chart below illustrates that in percentages.
possible solution
There might be a number of ways to lower the entry barrier for content generation. showRaker does it though “Subconscious Content generation”.
My role
My contribution in this project was to build a solution for user to engage in the content generation activities in a manner that could lower the barrier in an area where the barrier is already set to the barest.
That was the biggest knot to unravel.
Research Methods
Started off with Quantitative research and blended into Qualitative tchniques, Questionnaires, Screeners, Personal interviews, contextual enquiries, Heuristics.
ShowRaker research plan
by Joseph J , User Experience Bootcamp member. joseph.manalil@gmail.com. Stakeholders, Storiedd. Version0.1, last updated July 10th 2021. This study was conducted to understand the kind of behavior users carry out to express their love of the movies or the actors therein.
Window of opportunity
By doing a comparative analysis of the relaated platforms, we wee able to identify a clear window of opportunity.
How Tiktok, Youtube, Snapchat fared in comparison with showRaker.
Findings
An important discovery was that people that generate content & those that consume content are vastly different segments.
Streaming affects movie tickets
I leant that ticket prices between 1980s and the 2000s was on an upward swing. Ever since 20 years the trend has been down due to the number of streaming services.
Affinity map
Based on my key research, I was able to come up with an affinity map.
Personas
Ideation
Double Diamond is one of my favorite approaches. Stated below a few shots at generating ideas across the board.
Redroutes
Wires
Initial wires as you can see wee completely different from the final output, after iterated learnings.
This is why I gather that the process is not entirely linear.

Testing & Iteration
Most people debate on which part of the product cycle do we do testing. I felt it had to be done before the product is devised, I think the best way to validate ideas is though collaborating tools like storyboards, sketch flows and more.
Moving graded reaction to left side.
Why did I do that?
